Jammu And Kashmir Turmoil: Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti Put Under House Arrest; Schools & Colleges To Remain Shut, Internet Services Suspended

After former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been put under house arrest on late Sunday night, authorities have also imposed restrictions on the people's movements across Srinagar. Internet services have been suspended across the valley.

Srinagar, August 4: Hours after former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been put under house arrest on late Sunday night, authorities have also imposed restrictions on the people's movements across Srinagar. Internet services have been suspended across the Valley. Schools and colleges will remain closed in various district of Jammu and Kashmir from August 5 till further orders. Jammu And Kashmir Turmoil: Omar Abdullah Claims Being Placed Under 'House Arrest'.

Vinay Thusoo, University of Jammu spokesperson said, “University shall remain closed on August 5, 2019. All Under Graduate and Post Graduate examinations to be held on Monday stand postponed.” He further added that fresh dates would be notified later on. Schools have also been closed in Kathua. There will also be a complete ban on holding any kind of public meetings or rallies in the state. Meanwhile, Abdullah asked Kashmiris to stay calm and not to panic. He tweeted, "To the people of Kashmir, we don’t know what is in store for us but I am a firm believer that what ever Almighty Allah has planned it is always for the better, we may not see it now but we must never doubt his ways. Mufti also raised her concerns on the reports of curfew-like situation in the Valley. “Hearing reports about internet being snapped soon including cellular coverage. Curfew passes being issued too. God knows what awaits us tomorrow. It’s going to be a long night,” reported India Today quoting the PDP chief as saying. According to reports People's Conference leader Sajad Lone has also been put under house arrest. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also hit out at the state administration for putting Kashmiri leaders under house arrest.
