Kulgam, October 21: Three terrorists have been gunned down in an encounter with security forces which broke earlier in the day in Laroo area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. According to reports, a joint team of Indian Army’s 9 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operation Group of J&K police cordoned off the area in the wee hours after receiving inputs about the presence of the terrorists in the area.

The encounter began as the terrorists fired at the security personnel.  One army man was also injured in the gunfight. Police said, “As the cordon was tightened, the terrorists fired at the security forces. The injured soldier was immediately shifted to a hospital.”  One civilian, Ubaid Laway son of Mohd Maqbool Laway of Laroo died as some explosive substance went off near the site. The encounter has been concluded now. Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh while talking to the media said, "The encounter concluded just now and I have been told that three terrorists were neutralised in it. The operation is being wound up. Their identity is yet to be ascertained." Incidents of stone pelting were also reported from the encounter site. Two AK-47 rifles, Under Barrel Grenade Launcher, three grenades, two Chinese pistols and other weapons were also recovered from the terrorists.

Meanwhile, on Friday, security forces gunned down two terrorists in an encounter Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district. A huge cache of arms was also recovered from the terrorists. According to reports, Jammu and Kashmir police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) signalled a vehicle to stop at Kralhar near the Khwaja Bazar railway station in the district. The terrorists who were in the vehicle opened fire. In retaliation, the security forces fired back, killing both of them. In 2018, close to 190 terrorists were killed by the security forces in the Kashmir Valley.
