Srinagar, November 23: In a brutal act of terror, a youth was abducted and killed by terrorists in Shopian district, the Jammu and Kashmir police said on Friday. This is the third incident in which a teenager has been killed by terrorists in the last eight days in south Kashmir. The deceased was identified as Basharat Ahmad. His body was found at Nikloora village in Pulwama.

According to the police, terrorists abducted Basharat, Reyaz Ahmad and Zahid Ahmad from Reban area of Shopian. While Reyaz and Zahid were set free, Basharat was found dead in Pulwama. An investigation was initiated to know why the three were abducted and one of them was killed. Basharat's body was handed over to his family after completion of medico-legal formalities, the police said.

On November 17, terrorists killed a youth by slitting his throat in Shopian district. Huzaif Ashraf alias Raja Kandur, Shahid Ganaie and Farooq Thokar were kidnapped by terrorists from a bakery shop in Sadpora Payeen village. While Ganaie and Thakor were freed after questioning, Huzaif was taken to Hermain village where his throat was slit in a brutal manner.

Similarly, a teenager, Nadeem Manzoor, who was also abducted from Shopian, was killed in neighbouring Pulwama last week. Manzoor was reportedly executed on suspicion of being an informer for security forces. "Another dastardly killing of a young man, and this time the terrorists slit his throat. This barbarism has no place in our society. No struggle, no matter how lofty the claims to justify it, can condone this inhuman behaviour," former chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted. Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir kill people suspected of being police informers to warn others against helping security forces.
