Pulwama, September 5: Terrorists have fired upon an army party of 55 Rashtriya Rifles in Lassipora area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday. The security forces in retaliation opened fire on the terrorists. In the gun battle, a non-local labourer was injured. He was rushed to a hospital. The troops have cordoned off the entire area and launched a massive search operation.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Army also foiled an infiltration bid in Rajouri sector this morning. One infiltrator was gunned down by the army after he opened fire. His body has been handed over to the police. As per South Asian Terrorist Portal, till June this year, a total of 1,319 incidents of the ceasefire were reported along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB)

On September 3, a joint cordon and search operation was also launched by the army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir police in 18 villages of Pulwama. The operation began following reports about the presence of terrorists in the villages of Putrigam, Rohmu, Rajpora, Matrigam, Goosu, Frasipora and others. On August 28, militants had attacked an Army vehicle in Pulwama district at around 3.30 a.m. The terrorists detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) and then fired at the Casper (landmine proof armoured) vehicle of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles in Navpora village.
