Jammu And Kashmir: Terrorist, Overground Worker of Militants Killed by Security Forces in Shopian Shootout

Srinagar, June 3: A terrorist and an overground worker (OGW) of militants were killed by security forces in a shootout in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The gunfight took place in Chitragam village of Shopian district. According to the police, the slain terrorist has been identified as Firdous Ahmad Bhat and the OGW as Sajad Ahmad Dar. Both hailed from Kulgam district.

In retaliatory fire, security forces killed one terrorist and an OGW. "A patrol party of Rashtriya Rifles was fired upon today by militants travelling in a vehicle in Chitragam village of Shopian district. "Group affiliation of the slain militant and the OGW is being ascertained," police sources said. OGWs work as eyes and ears of militants in the Kashmir valley. They keep watch on the movement of security forces and inform militants about it. They also arrange hideouts for militants and provide other logistic support to them.

Following the shootout, mobile Internet services have been suspended in Kulgam district as a precautionary measure. Three days, three terrorists were neutralised by security forces in Dragad Sugan area of Shopian district. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter.
