Pulwama, June 26: A terrorist was killed in an encounter which broke between security forces and terrorists in Tral area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning. The killed terrorist has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Malik from Nagbal Tral. As per the police records, he was initially affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and later on, he was part of Zakir Musa group. A huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the slain terrorist. Troops of Indian Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K police carried out a joint operation after receiving information about the presence of the terrorists in the area. The gunfight broke out when the terrorists opened fire at the search party. The security forces cordoned off the entire area. According to initial reports, two-three terrorists were believed to be trapped in the area. The gunfight is still on between the terrorists and the security forces. Meanwhile, a huge amount of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the slain terrorist.
On Tuesday, Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy presented a report in the Lok Sabha about the number of terrorists killed in the valley in the last three years. Reddy said that a total of 773 terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir since 2016. He also revealed that this year till June 16, 113 terrorists were killed in the state.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah is also on a two-day visit to the Kashmir Valley to take stock of the security arrangements in the state ahead of the Amarnath Yatra. During his visit, Shah will meet Governor Satya Pal Malik.
