Jammu and Kashmir: Students of Primary School in Pund Forced to Study in Kutcha Rooms With School Building Damaged for Nine Years

According to a tweet by ANI, school kids in Pund village are being taught in a private kutcha room which lack basic facilities. According to the teachers, the school building has been damaged since last nine years and no action has been taken so far. "We informed higher authority several times. They said it'll be repaired but nothing happened", the teachers informed.

Srinagar, October 2: Students of a primary school in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir were seen attending classes in a kutcha room as the school building is reportedly damaged since a long time. According to a tweet by ANI, school kids in Pund village are being taught in a private kutcha room which lack basic facilities. At times, kids of the Pund village face a harrowing time as they are forced to study in open. According to the teachers, the school building has been damaged since last nine years and no action has been taken so far. "We informed higher authority several times. They said it'll be repaired but nothing happened", the teachers informed.

One of the teachers named Meenakshi was quoted by ANI saying that students are taught at someone's house and don't have benches to sit on. "We informed higher authority several times. We were always told that an estimate of the repairing work is being done and repair will be done it but nothing has happened yet", she added.

On Tuesday, the Jammu and Kashmir administration had directed officials to ensure that all schools in the Valley reopen by Thursday. The schools have remained closed for nearly two months following abrogation of Article 370, which grants special status to the state. According to a report by PTI, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan had directed all deputy commissioners in the Valley and the director of school education to make sure that no tuition fee or bus fee is charged from students for the days in August and September when the institutes were closed.
