Srinagar, August 9: Residents of Jammu and Kashmir offered Friday prayers at a mosque in Srinagar. The Centre today gave partial relaxation in the curfew which was imposed after the Narendra Modi government scrapped the special status of the status. Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an address to the nation on Thursday assured the people that residents of the Kashmir Valley would not face any inconvenience during Eid celebrations. Pm Modi had said, “Government will ensure a safe environment for smooth celebrations of the festival.”

Phone services and the internet have also partially been restored in the Valley. The entire Valley has come to a standstill due to curfew. Parliament also passed Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019 dividing the state into two Union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. However, the government reiterated that the UT status to Jammu and Kashmir would be temporary. Jammu and Kashmir will have a legislative assembly, while there will be no legislature in Ladakh.
