Srinagar, August 17: An Indian Army soldier lost his life on Friday following a brief gunfight between the security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. According to details by Police, the militants managed to escape the spot. A search operation in the area has been initiated and efforts to nab the terrorists are underway.
According to a report by IANS, the security forces laid a cordon around Kachlu village in Kralgund area after specific intelligence inputs. When the cordon was tightened, hiding militants opened fire triggering the encounter in which the soldier was injured. Police informed that the soldier succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
The valley has witnessed a sudden surge in encounter incidents since the past few months. In a separate incident on Friday, an encounter broke out between the security forces and terrorists in Hajin area of Bandipora. No casualties have been reported so far.

On Thursday, four soldiers were injured in an encounter with terrorists on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The injured soldiers have been shifted to an Army hospital. Reports inform that the infiltrating militants started firing towards the position of Army personnel, triggering an encounter.
