Kulgam, October 21: A soldier was injured on Sunday in a gunfight with militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Laroo village after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area. “As the cordon was tightened, the terrorists fired at the security forces. The injured soldier was immediately shifted to a hospital. Two to three terrorists are believed to be hiding inside a residential house in the area under cordon,” police said.
On Friday, security forces gunned down two terrorists in an encounter Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district. A huge cache of arms was also recovered from the terrorists. According to reports, Jammu and Kashmir police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) signalled a vehicle to stop at Kralhar near the Khwaja Bazar railway station in the district. The terrorists who were in the vehicle opened fire. In retaliation, the security forces fired back, killing both of them. An AK-201 assault rifle, two Chinese pistols and other weapons were recovered from the terrorists. Hours before the encounter, the Army foiled an infiltration bid, reportedly killing four intruders in Uri sector. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the security forces neutralised three terrorists in Srinagar’s in Fateh Kadal area. A policeman was also martyred in the operation. On October 16, Union Home Minister Rajanth Singh told security forces in Jammu and Kashmir not to fire first, but to retaliate without counting the bullets, if provoked.
