Srinagar, November 29: The fifth phase of panchayat elections took place on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a 71.1 per cent voter turnout. Kashmir division recorded a 33.7 per cent turnout, while the Jammu region witnessed 85.2 per cent voting . The voting percentage was highest in Reasi district with 89.1 per cent voter turnout. On the other hand, the lowest percentage of votes were polled in Pulwama district with just 0.5 per cent voter, the officials said. Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Elections 2018: 75.2 Per Cent Voter Turnout Despite Threats, Boycott Calls in Third Phase.

The polling in the state began at 8 am and ended at 2 pm in more than 2,500 polling stations including 769 in Kashmir division and 1,743 in Jammu division. Regions like Ramban, Udhampur, Doda withessed 85.2 per cent, 82 per cent and 83.3 per cent respectively.

Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir are being held in nine phrases with the sixth phrase of elections is scheduled on December 1. Despite terrorist threats and boycott from two major outfits- People's Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference, voters came out in large number in the fifth phase.
