Nowshera, July 5: Pakistan Army on Friday, July 5, violated ceasefire in Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district at around 9 pm. According to an official statement, Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation with firing small arms. Mortar shelling has also been reported. The Indian Army retaliated strongly. According to reports, no casualty or damage has been reported so far. Last month, an Army Jawan and three others were injured after Pakistan resorted to mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Pooch district. In past six months, a total of 1,248 ceasefire violations were done by Pakistan, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Rajya Sabha. “1248 ceasefire violations done by Pakistan in last six months along the Line of Control (LoC) and four Indian jawans lost their lives in the violations," he said.
In 2018, a total of 2,936 ceasefire violation were reported by the Pakistani Army which was the highest in the last 15 years. During the ceasefire violation, 61 people were killed and over 200 injured. However, in 2017, the ceasefire violations were three times less as compared to 2018. That year, only 971 cases were reported.
