Jammu And Kashmir: Over 20,000 Militants Gunned Down by Security Forces Since 1990, Says Modi Government

Union Miniter of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that since 1990, 22,557 militants had been neutralised in incidents of terrorist violence by security forces till December 1, 2019, in Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi, December 10: Union Miniter of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that since 1990, 22,557 militants had been neutralised in incidents of terrorist violence by security forces till 1st December, 2019. He also mentioned that certain persons including stone pelters, overground workers, separatists, among others were taken into preventive custody under statutory provisions by concerned magistrates in Jammu and Kashmir.

Answering a question in the Lower house of the parliament, Reddy said, as quoted by news agency ANI, "Since 1990, 22,557 militants have been neutralized in incidents of terrorist violence by security forces till 1st December, 2019." Reddy added that 1011 militants had been killed, 42 militants apprehended and 2253 militants pushed back or returned due to efficient vigil of security forces from 2005 till 31st Oct, 2019. He said, "During attempts of infiltration from across Line of Control from 2005 till 31st Oct, 2019, 1011 militants have been killed, 42 militants apprehended & 2253 militants pushed back/returned due to efficient vigil of security forces."

Apart from this, the Mos Home stated that stone pelters and others from Jammu and Kashmir were taken into preventive custody under statutory provisions by concerned Magistrates to prevent the commission of offences involving a breach of peace, activities prejudicial to the security of State & maintenance of public order. He stated that relevant statutory authorities are regularly reviewing these detentions. It is to be known that post abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in August, the opposition had been raising questioning the BJP government over reports of detention of youth. There were also reports that teenagers were kept under preventive detentions.
