A terrorist on Wednesday was killed in an encounter with defence forces in Gund Brath area of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district. Acting on the information about the presence of terrorists, the area was cordoned and a search operation was launched.

When the security forces were conducting searches in the area, terrorists fired upon them. The forces retaliated strongly, ensuing an encounter in which one terrorist was neutralised, said state police. Last month, Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy revealed that a total of 773 terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir since 2016. Speaking at Lok Sabha, Reddy said this year till June 16, 113 terrorists were neutralised in the state. In terror incidents, 18 civilians have lost their lives.
