Jammu and Kashmir: One Terrorist Gunned Down, Three Trapped in Anantnag, Encounter Underway

Jammu, August 24: A terrorist has been gunned down in an encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists in Kokernag area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday. According to a tweet by ANI, the body of a terrorist has been recovered and three militants are reportedly trapped in the area. Further details awaited. "In a continued offensive against terrorists, some suspected associates detained for questioning, 4 hideouts identified, 2 destroyed, some incriminating material seized", Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) SP Vaid informed in a tweet.
According to the latest update, one JeM terrorist who was gunned down by security forces earlier in the day is of Pakistani nationality. A huge quantity of ammunition and incriminating material seized from the site of encounter. A tweet by ANI informed that the terrorist was involved in several attacks on security forces and civilians in the area.
On Tuesday, security forces neutralised one terrorist in an encounter which broke out in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara. On August 12, one policeman was killed and four security forces personnel were injured in an encounter in Srinagar’s Batamaloo area.
On August 9, the Army killed five militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Sopore district after an encounter broke out between security forces and militants. One security force personnel was injured in the incident. Reports inform that the encounter broke out when militants opened fire on security forces while they were conducting searches inside the forest area at Ladoora.
Earlier this week, militants killed a policeman in Zazripora village of Shopian district and later, another policeman in Louswani village in Pulwama. After the brutal incident, Director General of Police SP Vaid said that the policemen have ignored the advisory to visit their ancestral homes without security.
