Kulgam, February 24: A terrorist was gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Tarigam area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday. Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) J&K police Aman Thakur was also martyred in the gun-battle. Thakur was a 2011 batch KPS Officer and had been heading counter-terrorism wing of J&K police in Kulgam for past 1.5 years. According to reports, two-three terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area. However, the identity of the killed terrorists is still not ascertained. On Sunday, a joint team of the India Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a cordon and search operation in the area following the inputs of the presence of terrorists. The encounter broke out after the terrorists fired upon the security forces.
Earlier this week on February 18, three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists were killed in an encounter in Pinglan area of Pulwama district. One of the terrorists Abdul Rasheed Ghazi was the mastermind of the February 14 Pulwama attack which claimed lives of 40 CRPF jawans. Five army personnel were also martyred in the gunfight. Meanwhile, on Friday, two more JeM terrorists were neutralised by security forces in Warpora village of North Kashmir's Sopore.
