Jammu, December 9: Following an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Mujgund area on Saturday, mobile internet services have been suspended in Srinagar. According to a tweet by ANI, five security personnel have been injured in the encounter which is underway since yesterday. No bodies of terrorists have been found yet. On Saturday, an encounter broke between militants and security forces on the outskirts of Srinagar - the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Police informed that joint teams of special operation group (SOG) of police, 5 Rashtriya Riffles and the CRPF launched cordon and search operation near the Srinagar-Bandipora road in Mujgund on Saturday evening. According to a report by Greater Kashmir, a police officer informed that the encounter broke at 6 pm. Preliminary reports suggested that at least three militants were hiding in a residential house. “The militants lobbed grenades and fired indiscriminately at the forces,” the official added. Deputy inspector general of police, central Kashmir range, V K Birdhi was quoted in the report saying that the forces didn’t recover any militant body so far. However, a soldier of 5 RR sustained injuries who was evacuated to 92 base hospital for treatment.
According to a PTI report, during the search operation, the militants fired upon them to which the forces retaliated, ensuring an encounter. The encounter is still underway. Reports inform that there was no official confirmation about the killing of any militant during the gunfight on Saturday.
