Srinagar, July 1: In a tragic incident, at least 35 people died in a road accident in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Monday. Nearly 17 people were injured and were immediately rushed to hospitals in the nearby area. Reports inform that three out of the injured ones have been airlifted to Jammu while another helicopter left for Kishtwar to airlift more injured. The accident took place after a overloaded bus, carrying the passengers, skidded off the road at Sirgwari and rolled down into the gorge in Kishtwar around 7:30 AM. As soon as the incident was reported, authorities rushed to the accident spot. The locals, police and the district administration have launched a rescue operation. According to a tweet by ANI, Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana, informed that 33 have been killed and 22 injured after a matador vehicle coming from Keshwan to Kishtwar fell into a gorge on Monday. Rana confirmed that 20 bodies have been shifted to a hospital. However, local sources confirmed the death of over 32 passengers.
According to a report by Greater Kashmir, a minibus, with registration number JK 17 6787, fell into a deep gorge in Keshwan area of the mountainous district on Monday morning. On June 27, 11 passengers, including nine girls, died in a major accident after their vehicle fell into a deep gorge near Peer Ki Gali in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.
