Jammu and Kashmir: LeT Commander Among Two Militants Gunned Down by Security Forces in Budgam Encounter

According to details available, arms and ammunition have been recovered from the site of encounter. The identities and affiliations of the terrorists killed are yet to be identified.

Srinagar, February 13: In a major success for security forces, a top LeT commander Abu Maaz was eliminated along with his aide during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. According to a tweet by ANI, a brief exchange of fire broke out between security forces and terrorists in Gopalpora area of Budgam district early this morning killing two terrorists. Reports inform that area has been cordoned off.  Police informed that a case has been registered. According to details available, arms and ammunition have been recovered from the site of encounter. The identities and affiliations of the terrorists killed are yet to be identified.

On Tuesday, a militant was killed and an army jawan was martyred while another soldier was injured in an encounter in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Reports inform that the injured soldier has been taken to a hospital for treatment, the sources said.

According to details by Police, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Ratnipora area in south Kashmir during the night following specific information about the presence of militants there. However, the search operation turned into an encounter after militants fired on the forces who retaliated.

On February 10, security forces gunned down five terrorists during a gunfight in Kellam Devsar area in Kulgam district during a search operation. According to SP Pani, IG Kashmir, the security forces cordoned the area on the basis of specific inputs. "During the exchange of fire, 5 terrorists were killed, arms and ammunition have been recovered. There has been no collateral damage & the encounter site has been cleared", Pani added.
