Srinagar, January 1: After nearly five months, Short Message Service (SMS) facility for all mobile phones, internet services in Kashmir's Govt-run hospitals have been restored from Wednesday. A communication blockade was imposed across Jammu and Kashmir following the revocation of Article 370 on August 5. Jammu and Kashmir Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal on Tuesday had said that broadband services will also resume in government schools and hospitals from Wednesday. However, Internet and pre-paid mobile services in Kashmir are yet to be restored.

After internet services, landline and mobile phones were snapped across Jammu and Kashmir, most services were restored in Jammu within a week while Kashmir saw landlines and post-paid services being restored in phases. Jammu and Kashmir administration spokesman Rohit Kansal was quoted by PTI saying all government hospitals have been ordered to restore internet connectivity with effect from midnight of December 31 besides fully restoring SMS on mobile phones.

Here's the tweet:

The curbs were lifted gradually with landlines being restored first, which was followed by the opening up of post-paid mobile phone services. Kansal informed that on December 10, machine-based SMSes were enabled for mobile phones in Kashmir in order to facilitate students, scholarship aspirants, traders and others, and that restoration of full message services was part of the process.
