Srinagar, August 17: Amid escalating tension between India and Pakistan post abrogation of special provisions of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, an Indian Army's Lance Naik Sandeep Thapa was martyred in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Nowshera Sector in Rajouri on Saturday. The ceasefire began on Saturday and firing is underway.
Briefing the details, Indian Army informed on Saturday, "Lance Naik Sandeep Thapa has lost his life in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Nowshera Sector, Rajouri; firing underway." The Indian security forces stated that the firing began at around 6:30 am in which Pakistan initiated unprovoked firing with small arms and mortar shells. This is third such ceasefire being violated by Pakistan in just 12 hours. Earlier, the five permanent members - USA, United Kingdom, France, China and Russia - sat on Friday night to discuss the New Delhi's move to end special status for Jammu and Kashmir. Following the meeting, the members requested both the neighbours to solve the Kashmir through bilateral dialogues. While, India has maintained that its position was and remains that matters related to Kashmir are 'entirely an internal matter'.
