Jammu And Kashmir: Hizbul Mujahideen Militants Involved in Killings of BJP, RSS Leaders Arrested in Kishtwar

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested three alleged Hizbul Mujahideen militants and an overground worker. The arrested militants were allegedly involved in at least four terrorist acts including the killings of two leaders of the BJP and the RSS.

Srinagar, September 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested three alleged Hizbul Mujahideen militants and an overground worker. The arrested militants were allegedly involved in at least four terrorist acts including the killings of two leaders of the BJP and the RSS in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district. The murders were part of a conspiracy to revive militancy in Kishtwar. Jammu and Kashmir: 3 JeM Terrorists Sent to JIC in Jammu for Interrogation.

The police arrested Nissar Ahmad Sheikh, one of the conspirators, along with Nishad Ahmad and Azad Hussain. According to Mukesh Singh, Inspector General of Police, Jammu zone, the trio were involved in the four cases which took place between November last year and September this year. BJP state secretary Anil Parihar was killed in 2018, while senior RSS functionary Chanderkant Sharma was murdered in April this year. Jammu and Kashmir Detenues' Health Being Monitored On Regular Basis: DGP Prisons.

The murders were plotted by longest surviving Hizbul Mujahideen commander Jahangir Saroori as part of a conspiracy to revive militancy in Kishtwar, IGP Singh said. The fourth person arrested, Rustom, was an overground worker who helped in the construction of hideout in the houses of Nissar and Nishad. The police also recovered some pistols, a rifle and some kinds of ammunition from suspected militants' hideout.

"I would like to send a message that anyone harbouring, sympathizing, transporting or helping terrorists in any form will be dealt with very strictly under the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act," the IGP, who was flanked by Commander Nine Sector Army Brigadier Vikram Bhan and other senior officers, told reporters.

The most recent attack in Kishwar took place on September 13 when terrorists attacked the house of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) district president Sheikh Nasir Hussain at Gourian village in the town and fled with his PSO's service rifle.
