Jammu and Kashmir Highway Hit Due to Landslides, Over 3,000 Vehicles Stranded
Following the closure of road due to landslides at various places between Ramban and Banihal since midnight, over 3,000 vehicles were stranded along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
Jammu, April 18: Following the closure of road due to landslides at various places between Ramban and Banihal since midnight, over 3,000 vehicles were stranded along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Thursday. The vehicles were seen stranded for kilometres.
According to a report, published in the Indian Express, landslides first erupted at Monkey Morh around 12 in the night on Wednesday, said SSP Traffic (NH) J S Johar on Thursday. Though the road clearance work was in progress and the highway was closed in Anokhi Fall area as well due to landslides, added Johar. The authorities took preventive measures and cleared road at Anokhi Fall landslides, while the highway was still blocked in Monkey Morh area. The problem arose due to the continuous shooting stones in the area and a large number of vehicles were stranded on the road.
In the meantime, due to the landslides and closure of roads, polling in Ramban, Ramsoo and Barite areas was also hit as a large number of voters were waiting for clearance of road to reach their respective polling stations. Along with other travellers, locals too got stuck in the huge jam on the road between Digdol to Nashri.
