Jammu, July 21:  An encounter between security forces and terrorists began in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara on Saturday morning. According to a tweet by ANI, the gunfight took place near Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir. Reports inform that Army's 6 Gadhwal and a group of militants had a stand-off in the dense woods of Balthedyan along the LoC adjacent to Tony Post.

Reports inform that the Army had launched a search operation following specific inputs about the presence of some militants. It was during the search operation that the group of militants believed to be infiltrators opened fire triggering off a gunfight.

Earlier in the day, a Pakistani militant belonging to terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed by the security forces in an encounter in the Handwara area of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Police informed that a foreign militant, belonging to the LeT, was killed in the encounter at Batpora.

According to a PTI report, the body of the Pakistani militant was recovered from the encounter site along with a weapon and other incriminating material, he said. More details about the identity of the slain militant are being ascertained.

Earlier this week, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Handwara area of Kupwara district.  According to a report by Police, the encounter was underway in Batpora area of Handwara in the north Kashmir district.

Details by Police informs that security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of militants there.
