Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik Rejects Reports of Shortage of Life Saving Medicines in Valley
Governor Satya Pal Malik said all the essential commodities were available in the region and meat, vegetables and eggs were delivered to people's houses on Eid. The Governor assured that everything will be fine in the coming days.
Srinagar, August 25: After several media reports claimed non-availability of essential commodities and medicines in the Kashmir Valley, Governor Satya Pal Malik rubbished all the claims and said all the essential commodities were available in the region. He said there is no such shortage, adding that authorities delivered meat, vegetables and eggs were delivered to people's houses on Eid. "There is no shortage of essential commodities and medicines in Kashmir, in fact, we delivered meat, vegetables and eggs to people's houses on Eid, your opinion will change in 10-15 days", the J&K Governor was quoted by ANI. Since August 5, the Kashmir Valley has remained under a lockdown with communication lines blocked and military curfew imposed. Malik said in all the crises that happened in Kashmir in the past, at least 50 people used to die in the first week itself. "Our attitude is such that there should be no loss of human lives", he added. The Governor assured that everything will be fine in the coming days. On reports of shortage of medicines, the Jammu & Kashmir Administration informed that in Srinagar, 1165 out of 1666 chemist shops have remained open while in the Kashmir Valley, there are 7630 retail chemist shops and 4331 wholesale shops, and 65% of the shops remain open.
The administration further informed that all 376 notified drugs available at government shops and private retailers. "62 essential/life saving drugs also available. 3 persons each stationed at Jammu and Chandigarh for quick dispatch of medicines and baby food", the statement read.
