Srinagar, August 30: Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday rejected reports of a shortage of medicines and healthcare facilities in the state. The government said that nearly 5,000 major surgeries were performed in hospitals in Srinagar since August 5, the day on which the Narendra Modi government scrapped the special status of the state by diluting Article 370. According to the administration, besides Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Soura and SKIMS Medical College and Hospital in Bemina, surgeries performed in all associated hospitals of Government Medical College (GMC) in Srinagar. As per reports, over 3,000 surgeries were performed in GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals. Apart from surgeries, general healthcare in these hospitals during this period has been usual with around 95,000 patients in OPDs and over 10,000 patients in IPDs. The state administration further added that routine laboratory investigations and radiological procedures in these hospitals during the period added up to over one lakh. The administration has also provided funds to several hospitals for procuring additional medicines. Around 95 percent of staff attendance was recorded in all the healthcare institutions of the valley. Meanwhile, internet services in the Kashmir Valley have been suspended since August 5. The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday said that internet services in the state are unlikely to be restored anytime soon to avoid circulation of fake videos purporting to show human rights violations and violence in Kashmir.
