Gurez, August 7: Four Indian Army personnel including a major-rank officer have been martyred in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gurez sector. Four terrorists are also reported to be killed by the security forces, who have launched combing operation in the area. The encounter started after the army noticed a suspicious movement in Gurez area of North Kashmir close to Line of Control (LoC) during the night.

The encounter is underway. According to reports, the terrorists were trying to infiltrate under the cover of heavy firing by the Pakistani Army. On August 4, five terrorists were killed by the armed forces in Shopian district. A joint operation was carried out by the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area.

Meanwhile, on August 3, the security forces gunned down two terrorists at Drusu village in Sopore district. The Indian army jawan Sawar Vijay Kumar also martyred in the encounter and even on August 2, two terrorists were killed in a gunfight that broke out in Kupwara.

In 2018, around 120 terrorists have been killed by the security forces in the Kashmir Valley, while more than 50 security personnel lost their lives. The security forces have launched an ‘Operation All-Out’ to get rid of terrorism from the valley.
