Shopian, September 2: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Shopian district in south Kashmir. Security forces had launched a search operation in Laddi Imamsahab village after receiving inputs of the presence of terrorists in the area, reported news agency ANI. Terrorists open fire on security personnel during the search operation. The encounter is still underway. The forces have cordoned off the entire area. According to reports, three terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area.

Yesterday, the Indian Army gunned down three terrorists in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district. The gunfight began on Friday after the Army launched an anti-terrorism operation Chandajan forest area. An army soldier was also martyred in the encounter.

Meanwhile, on Friday, two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Hajin area of Bandipora district on Friday. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Hajin area following information about the presence of militants there. Till August this, around 150 terrorists have been killed by the security forces, while close to 60 security personnel lost their lives in counter-insurgency operations.
