Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter Underway in Handwara, One Terrorist Gunned Down

Jammu, July 26: An encounter between security forces and terrorists is underway in Kupwara's Handwara district in Jammu and Kashmir.  According to reports, one terrorist has been gunned down during the encounter and about two or three have been holed up. “Exchange of fire between Terrorists & Security forces at Handwara. Security forces on the job. Details will follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

On Tuesday, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir killed two terrorists in the encounter which started in Anantnag. The encounter concluded later in the afternoon concluded. The security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Lal Chowk area of the district this morning following information about the presence of terrorists there.

The J&K Police informed that one of the terrorists gunned down in the Anantnag encounter was identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar while the identity of the other terrorist is yet to be ascertained. Following the encounter, mobile internet service was suspended in most parts of south Kashmir as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of rumours.

Earlier this week, three terrorists were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Khudwani area of Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir. A total of three weapons were also recovered from the encounter site.
