Jammu And Kashmir: Encounter Underway In Handwara; 2-3 Terrorists Reportedly Trapped

Handwara, October 11: An encounter is underway between terrorists and security forces in Handwara’s Shartgund Bala. Two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped. Due to the encounter, internet services have been suspended in the area, and educational institutes have also been closed. Further details are still awaited. The encounter broke out just a day after the second phase the state municipal elections. Meanwhile, only 31.3 percent people cast their vote.

On October 5, terrorists opened fire on three political workers at Karfari Mohalla in Srinagar. Two National Conference (NC) workers were killed in the shooting, and one was injured in the firing. Meanwhile, the NC and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had already announced to boycott the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state.

On September 11, two terrorists were gunned down in Handwara. As per reports, the terrorists belonged to the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit and arms and ammunition were also recovered from them. Till Now, close to 180 terrorists have been gunned down in the Kashmir valley, while 74 security forces lost their lives in the terrorist attacks.
