Jammu, June 29:  An encounter between security forces and terrorists is underway in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara. Reports inform that a terrorist has been gunned down during the encounter near Trehgam in Kupwara district. The security forces have called off the operation.

In another similar incident on Friday morning, an Army personnel was injured after terrorists lobbed a grenade at an Army patrolling party in Shopian's Ahgam area. The area has been cordoned off and a search operation has been launched.

Earlier this week, security forces had gunned down two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in an encounter in South Kashmir's Kulgam district which included LeT's self-styled divisional commander Shakoor Ahmed Dar.

In another similar encounter incident earlier this week, four terrorists were killed, including the chief of Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK), an affiliate of the banned Islamic State terror group in an encounter in south Kashmir's Anantnag.

A policeman was martyred and two civilians suffered injuries in the gun battle which broke out at Srigufwara subdivision. J&K DGP SP Vaid confirmed that the militants belonged to ISJK and said that the bodies of the four terrorists were recovered from the site.  Reports quoted Vaid saying that militants used to post on a website of the IS information about any attack they carried out on J&K police or the Central Reserve Police Force in J&K.
