Srinagar, Sep 25: Security forces killed two terrorists in an encounter in Tujjar area in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore district on Tuesday. A search operation was underway to sanitise the area. As soon as the gunfight broke out between security forces and militants, authorities closed educational institutions and suspended mobile Internet services in Sopore town.
Soldiers from the Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) started a search operation in Nowpora following a tip-off about the presence of militants there. On Monday, the Army foiled a major attempt by terrorists to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir, killing five militants on the LoC and losing a soldier in operation. The infiltration bid was foiled near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector in Kupwara district. The gunfight started on Sunday after a group of heavily armed militants was challenged by the Army.
Lance Naik Sandeep Singh, who had taken part in the surgical strikes by the Indian Army across the LoC in September 2016, lost his life in the anti-infiltration oeprations. Singh had sustained bullet injuries during the operation. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.
