Shopian, December 3: An encounter broke out between terrorists and a joint team of security forces in Sangran village of Shopian district in south Kashmir on Monday morning. A cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces on the Sunday night after receiving inputs about the presence of terrorists in the village. The encounter broke out after the terrorists opened fire on the forces. However, no casualty has been reported yet. According to reports, two-three terrorists are believed to be hiding in the area.

Earlier on November 25, Security forces killed six terrorists in the Kapran Batagund area of Shopian district in the state. Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani was also martyred in the gunfight. He was once a part of a terror module in the Kashmir Valley. He gave up the gun and became a counter-insurgent. Similarly, on Friday, six terrorists, including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sekipora area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The slain terrorists were identified as commander Azad Malik, Unais Shafi, Shahid Bashir, Basit Ishtiyaq, Aqib Najar and Firdous Najar. This year, close to 250 terrorists have been killed by security forces in the Kashmir Valley.
