Jammu and Kashmir: Constable Sudip Sarkar Killed in Anti-Infiltration Operation in Machil Sector

A constable of Jammu and Kashmir, who was injured in an operation to stop infiltration in Machil sector, succumbed to his wounds on Sunday.

Srinagar, November 8: A constable of Jammu and Kashmir, who was injured in an operation to stop infiltration in Machil sector, succumbed to his wounds on Sunday. The deceased was identified as constable Sudip Sarkar.  He was injured when the police and security forces foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector in Kupwara district. Jammu and Kashmir: Pakistan Violates Ceasefire on LoC in Poonch District.

According to Indian Army's Chinar Corps, suspicious movement was noticed near the fence on the LoC in Machil sector during the intervening night of November 7 and 8. Subsequently, a joint operation was launched by the Army and police. Constable Sudip Sarkar was also part of the operation. "Contact was established with the infiltrating terrorists. One terrorist was killed. One AK-47 assault rifle and two bags were recovered. Operation is in progress," the Army statement said. According to a report, senior intelligence and security force officials say the infiltration attempts are likely to increase before the mountain passes in J&K get closed by heavy winter snow after which chances of crossing into the valley become minimal.
