Jammu And Kashmir: Blast in Car on Jammu-Srinagar Highway, Close Shave For CRPF Convoy

Srinagar, March 30: A blast was reported on Jammu-Srinagar highway in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. According to initial reports, the explosion occurred in a car in Banihal, Ramban. A convoy of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was at a significant distance from the blast site. However, one of the vehicles of the CRPF convoy was slightly damaged in the explosion.
Jammu and Kashmir Police said the explosion occurred inside a private car at Tethar, destroying the vehicle. "The explosion appears to have been caused by a gas cylinder inside the car but this is based on preliminary examination of the car's wreckage," a police officer sources told news agency IANS. "There was no loss of life... The driver of the car, who was the lone occupant, appears to have escaped," the officer said. The CRPF confirmed the rear of one of their vehicle was damaged. "Around 10:30 hrs, an explosion took place in a civil car near Banihal, J&K while CRPF convoy was on move. The car caught fire & slight damage was caused in the rear of one of the CRPF vehicle. No injuries were caused to CRPF Personnel," it told news agency ANI.
Earlier this month, a grenade was hurled at a bus on Srinagar bus stand. Two people died in the attack. It is worth mentioning that around 40 CRPF personnel were killed when a suicide bomber rammed into a convoy while moving from Jammu to Srinagar in Lethpora area of South Kashmir Pulwama district on February 14 around 3:15 pm. The Pakistan based terror outfit JeM claimed the responsibility of the attack.
