Jammu, August 2: Kathua police on Thursday registered an FIR in connection with a gangrape case involving a 17-year-old girl by two of her classmates in May this year. The two accused also filmed the shameful act on camera. The incident came to light on July 20, after one of the accused uploaded the video on social media. The mother of the victim alleged that police refused to register a first information report (FIR) on July 20 on her complaint. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the girl’s family then approached a local court in Hiranagar. The Kathua women’s police cell booked the youths on the court’s order.
After sexually assaulting the girl at Roohi Resorts at Kootah Morh on the Jammu-Pathankot highway, the two accused had threatened the victim not to tell anybody about the incident. The police have booked the youths under Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) sections 376 (rape) and 109 (abetment to crime), section 67 of the Information Technology Act (publishing or transmitting in electronic form sexually explicit material). The accused were also booked under section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The police are yet the arrest both the youths.
