Poonch, July 29: After getting injured in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on July 28, a 10-day-old baby succumbed to injuries on Monday. The child was in very critical condition when admitted to the district hospital in Poonch. He was kept under observation after the operation. However, the baby could not survive.
Two other civilians were also injured in the ceasefire violation. They were shifted to a hospital in Jammu. On Sunday, Pakistani troops resorted to intense mortar shelling and firing of small arms on forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch. The Indian Army retaliated strongly.
Jammu-based Public Relations Officer of the Army Lt. Col. Devender Anand had said, “At about 1700 hours, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and intense shelling with mortars along the LoC in Shahpur and Saujiyan sectors in Poonch district.”
On July 22, an India soldier lost his life in Pakistan firing in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. The soldier was injured as Pakistani troops targeted Indian defence and civilian facilities in Sunderbani area of Rajouri with small arms and mortar fire. Later, he succumbed to his injuries.
