Jallikattu 2019: 24 Bull Tamers Injured in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur, Admitted in Hospital

Thanjavur, March 3: Twenty-four youth participating in the bull-taming sport – Jallikattu – at Mathakottai in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. After the incident, four among them were first aid, while the other 20 were sent for medical treatment at Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. The controversial sport was inaugurated by Thanjavur MP K Parasuraman.

According to the information, the event kicked off when the local MP waived a flag at 7.15 am in the presence of Thanjavur district collector Dr A Annadurai. Altogether 652 bulls took part in the jallikattu which were sourced from Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Tiruchy and Madurai districts of the state. Jallikattu 2019: Two Men Watching Bull-Taming Event Killed in Tamil Nadu’s Puddukottai. 

During the sporting event, a total of 310 bull-tamers took part in the contest. Prizes like bicycles, steel almirah and silver utensils among others were distributed to the participants who tamed the bull to a certain distance from Vadivasal. The event ended at 4.15 pm.

To make the event successful, the police had made elaborate bandobust arrangements as precautionary steps. It is to be known that this is the second jallikattu in the district this year, after Thirukanurpatti.
