Jalgaon, September 13: In a horrifying incident in Jamner taluka of Jalgaon district, Maharashtra, a man has been arrested for killing his eight-day-old daughter by forcibly stuffing tobacco into her mouth. The accused, identified as Gokul Gotiram Jadhav (30), was taken into custody after an Asha worker brought the shocking incident to light. According to the Free Press Journal report, Jadhav, who already had two daughters, became deeply disturbed when his wife gave birth to their third daughter on September 2 at the Vakod Primary Health Centre.
His distress led to this act on September 10 when he placed tobacco in the infant's mouth and put her to sleep, causing her death. The Asha worker, visiting the family to register the birth, was informed that the child was not present in the household. Sensing something amiss, she reported her concerns to authorities. Medical officer Dr Sandeep Kumawat subsequently arrived at the village and questioned Jadhav, who initially claimed the child had died of illness.
