Kanpur, January 17: Jalees Ansari, a 1993 Rajasthan serial blasts convict, who went missing while he was out on parole has been arrested by the police. The 69-year-old was arrested from a mosque in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur. He was out on 21-day parole sanctioned by the Supreme Court and was to surrender to prison authorities on January 17. "Jalees Ansari (a serial blasts convict who was out on parole when a missing complaint was filed by his family yesterday in Mumbai) has been arrested when he was coming out from a mosque in Kanpur. He has been brought to Lucknow. It's a big achievement of UP Police," UP DGP OP Singh said.

Who is Dr Jalees Ansari?

Ansari, a resident of Agripada in Mumbai, is an MBBS Doctor who was convicted for his role in many blasts across the country. He was sentenced to life in prison in the 1993 Rajasthan bomb blast case. He has been in jail since 1994 since he was arrested by the CBI for his role in planting a bomb in the Rajdhani Express.

The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra ATS had launched a massive manhunt to trace him. Ansari, who is known as Dr Bomb, was allegedly connected with terror outfits like Indian Mujahideen and SIMI and taught terror groups how to make bombs.
