Jaipur Likely to Run Out of Water in 30 Days If Monsoon 2019 Is Further Delayed

Jaipur, July 24: With scanty rainfall in Rajasthan, there are high chances that Jaipur and several others parts of the state may run out of water in a month if monsoon is further delayed. Reports inform that the Jaipur region and the Bisalpur dam have water left for only 40 days. In a bid to overcome the water crisis in the state, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) is putting in place a contingency plan to avert the looming crisis. According to reports, the Bisalpur dam, that has a full capacity of 1,095 cusec metres; is only filled 64.93 cusec metres, accounting to just 5.93 per cent. This year, 12 districts in Rajasthan received less than 60 per cent average rainfall compared to last year, triggering drought-like situations. In the wake of the current situation, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had directed officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made considering the low rainfall in the state. Gehlot directed the chief secretary to analyse the requirements of contingency in consultation with the disaster management department, other concerned departments and all district collectors.

According to a report by PTI, the Public Health and Engineering Department informed that water supply through tankers have reduced due to rains recorded in several parts of the state. The officials informed that a contingency plan for Jaipur city and Ajmer district and other areas has been prepared and implemented.
