Jaipur: Internet, Metro Services to Remain Suspended on Sunday Due to Anti-CAA Protests

Jaipur, December 21: Amid ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), internet services will remain suspended in Jaipur from 6 am to 8 pm on Sunday. The decision was taken by district authorities to maintain law and order in the state. Yesterday, Ajmer Dargah Dewan Sayed Zannual Hussain Chisti said that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and The National Register of Citizens (NRC) are not against Muslims. He appealed to the student of Jamia University that they not to resort to violence.

Meanwhile, locals of Ajmer protested against CAA during the Friday prayers. They wore black bands during the prayers. On December 21, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also held a massive protest march against the Gehlot government for opposing CAA and NRC in Jaipur. The Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 was passed in the Rajya Sabha on December 11 and the next day President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to the bill. The CAA grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
