Jaganmohan Reddy, Andhra CM, Announces Rs 7 Lakh Compensation to Families of Farmers Committed Suicide

With the rise in farmers of the state committing suicide due to agrarian crisis since the last five years, Andhra Pradesh CM Jaganmohan Reddy has announced Rs seven lakh as compensation to families of farmers.

Hyderabad, July 10: With the rise in farmers of the state committing suicide due to agrarian crisis since last five years, Andhra Pradesh CM Jaganmohan Reddy has announced Rs seven lakh as compensation to families of farmers on Wednesday.

Calling this as 'governance with a humanitarian approach' Reddy stated that this is how his state government will function. The AP CM also informed local legislators will accompany district collectors when they go to pay the compensation amount to the families. In a new move, the YSRCP-led government is also mulling plan to make a law which ensures that none but the family of the dead farmer gets this compensation. The announcement was made during a teleconference with district collectors and superintendents of police on Wednesday.

According to the District Crime Records Bureau data, 1,513 farmers had committed since 2014 but the records only show 391 families were compensated. The CM alleged that the previous Chandrababu Naidu government refused to pay compensation to the other farmer families.
