Kolkata, January 6: Clashes broke out between Jadavpur University students and the police on Monday evening while protests were being held outside Jadavpur University against the JNU violence case. India's prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday witnessed massive violence and vandalism as several masked individuals, both male and female, thrashed students, including girls, and teachers inside the campus with wooden and metal rods, injuring many. Among those who were attacked are two office-bearers of the Jawaharal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), including President Aishe Ghosh - who was reportedly hit over the eye with an iron rod and sustained serious injuries.

A committee has been formed under the Joint Commissioner of Police, for fact finding and to avoid any delay in investigation and inquiry in the JNU violence case, said Delhi Police PRO, MS Randhawa. He also informed that FIR has been lodged in the matter and that investigation is underway using the footage. A total of 34 persons were injured and all 34 have been discharged from AIIMS Trauma Centre, said the officer.
