Kolkata, January 16: Jadavpur University professor Kanak Sarkar, who made controversial remarks on girls and women in a Facebook post, has been divested of his duties with immediate effect, reported news agency ANI. The professor, in a misogynist Facebook post, compared ‘virgin brides’ with ‘sealed bottles’. After that, Professor Sarkar was again in news for the wrong reasons after his lewd comment to a female student. Another student wrote on Facebook that Professor Kanak had asked her during a class presentation if she wants to be a model as her figure is model like and this is "what men would enjoy". A notice issued by the Jadavpur University's Department of International Relations mentioned that "in view of the Student-Teacher Committee of the Department, Prof Kanak Sarkar is divested of his teaching duties with immediate effect." The notice further mentioned that "Substitute arrangements would be decided in the meeting of the Board of Studies on 18th January 2019." The notice bears the sign of Prof. Omprakash Mishra, Head, Department of International Relations.
Students of Jadavpur University had staged a protest in campus demanding the suspension of professor Sarkar over his misogynist Facebook post. The comment was also condemned by Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association (JUTA). Prof Kanak Sarkar is divested of his teaching duties now for his derogatory, misogynist, sexist remarks and humiliating the students.
