ITR Filing Last Date Extended in Flood-Hit Kerala From Aug 31 to Sept 15
The tax body has extended the deadline from August 31 to September 15 for those residing in Kerala. For the rest of the nation, the erstwhile deadline will remain intact.
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 28: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Tuesday announced an extension in the last date for filing the Income Tax Returns for assessees in Kerala, which has been ravaged by floods.
The tax body has extended the deadline from August 31 to September 15 for those residing in Kerala. For the rest of the nation, the erstwhile deadline will remain intact.
In a statement issued by the CBDT, it said: "In view of the disruption caused due to severe floods in Kerala, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) hereby further extends the “due date” for furnishing Income Tax Returns from 31st August, 2018 to 15th September, 2018."
The deadline extension is likely to be welcomed by taxpayers in Kerala. The state is yet to recover from the floods which has affected over 10 lakh people and left 302 dead.
Meanwhile, assessees in other parts of the nation, who are yet to file their returns, are recommended to submit their ITRs at the earliest. The CBDT may impose a fine of upto Rs 10,000 on those who fail to adhere to the deadline.
