ISRO Successfully Launches PSLV-C42 Into Orbit Carrying Two Foreign Satellites, NovaSAR & S1-4 From Sriharikota

The two earth observation satellites-Nova SAR and S1-4 have been developed by Surrey Satellite Technologies Limited (SSTL), the United Kingdom under a commercial arrangement with Antrix Corporation Limited, Department of Space.

Sriharikota, Sep 16: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday launched the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C42 (PSLV-C42) into orbit carrying two foreign satellites, NovaSAR & S1-4. The launch took place from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota at 10.07 PM. "ISRO's trusted workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C42 (PSLV) would carry the satellites, NovaSAR and S1-4, together weighing over 800 kilograms, at liftoff on Sunday at 10.07 PM", the Indian space agency had said in a release.

It must be noted that both the British satellites weighing around 889 kgs have been launched into a 583 km Sun Synchronous Orbit. With today's launch, this is the 44th flight of the PSLV and the third launch by ISRO this year.

Reports inform that NovaSAR is a S-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite intended for forest mapping, land use & ice cover monitoring, flood & disaster monitoring. Meanwhile, the S1-4 is a high-resolution Optical Earth Observation Satellite, used for surveying resources, environment monitoring, urban management and for the disaster monitoring.
