ISRO Launches GSAT-7A From Sriharikota, Satellite to Empower Communication Capabilities of Armed Forces

The new satellite will enable the IAF to interlink different ground radar stations, airbases and AWACS aircraft.

Sriharikota, December 19: The Indian Space Research Organisation on Wednesday successfully launched communication satellite GSAT-7A on-board GSLV-F11 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 4:10 pm. The satellite is expected to boost the communication capabilities of our armed forces and has a lifespan of eight years.

According to the information, issued by the premier space research organisation, the new satellite will enable the IAF to interlink different ground radar stations, airbases and AWACS aircraft. Along with this, the satellite would boost IAF’s network-centric warfare capabilities and enhance its global operations. ISRO to Launch GSAT-7 Military Communications Satellite For IAF Today.

The spacecraft which carries the 35th Indian Communication satellite GSAT-7A is built by India and weighs 2250 kg. The communication satellite has been positioned in its designated geostationary orbit and is equipped with solar panels and reflectors. With GSAT-7A, ISRO marks the 17th successful mission of 2018 in space.
