New Delhi, Sep 7: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation or IRCTC may soon have a new name as Railway Minister Piyush Goyal wants a 'catchy' name for the ticket booking website (irctc.co.in) and app of the Indian Railways. Goyal has asked IRCRC officials to suggest a 'catchy' name as he thinks the IRCTC is hard to remember.
“The Minister has asked us to suggest alternative names to IRCTC. We are awaiting directions from the Railway Board on how to go about renaming the organisation. It will be a long-drawn process as the new name will have to be registered as well," an IRCTC official told a newspaper. Notably, the government held a contest 'Coin A New Name' on mygov.in website. The contest, which is now closed, invited people to suggest a new name for the IRCTC and offered a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for the selected entry. As many as 1,852 people across the country submitted their responses, according to mygov.in website. The results for the competition have not been announced till now. It is not clear whether the new name of the IRCTC will be picked from the contest entries.
