IRCTC Scam: Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav Granted Bail on Personal Bond of Rs 1 Lakh Each
According to a tweet by ANI, Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi Yadav and others have been granted regular bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 Lakh and a surety amount each. The next date of hearing is February 11.
New Delhi, January 28: Delhi's Patiala House Court on Monday granted regular bail to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam case. According to a tweet by ANI, Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi Yadav and others have been granted regular bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 Lakh and a surety amount each. The next date of hearing is February 11.
Lalu is facing charges of misusing his position in the allotment of a contract to a private company for the maintenance of two IRCTC hotels located at Puri and Ranchi. In July 2018, the CBI had registered a case in and had carried out searches at 12 locations in Patna, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar and Gurugram in connection with the case. The CBI had said that the charges in the case include criminal conspiracy (120-B), cheating (420) under IPC and corruption. The CBI, which had in April 2018 filed the charge sheet in the case, had said that there were enough evidence against the accused. According to the charge sheet, between 2004 and 2014, a conspiracy was hatched in pursuance of which BNR hotels of Indian Railways, located at Puri and Ranchi, were first transferred to the IRCTC. The chargesheet informed that besides Lalu and his family members, former union minister Prem Chand Gupta and his wife Sarla Gupta, Agarwal, then managing director of IRCTC P.K. Goyal and then IRCTC director Rakesh Saxena were also involved. Among others named in the charge-sheet were Vijay Kochhar and Vinay Kochhar—both directors of Sujata Hotels and owners of Chanakya Hotel.
